The Apeejay Kolkata Literary Festival is an illustrious cultural event signifying the intellectual and artistic ethos of our grand old city. This year the festival ear marks a special event for the young people by hosting a Street Theatre Festival in collaboration with Apeejay Schools, Kolkata.
Theatre that the city is proud of has a special importance in the field of education which has been extensively discussed and proved. We have sincerely integrated theatre in our scheme of learning and have reaped the fruit of it. This event is another sincere involvement to create an extended sharing of the art of theatre. City Schools are invited to participate in the festival by enrolling themselves. The schools with an extended facility involving underprivileged children as a second school or a support system get preference and we wish them to include some of them in their crew list. Our objective is to integrate the lesser privileged children to the mainstream by sharing a common platform for performance.
Then they are trained and guided by well trained theatre practitioners to develop a production based on the central theme. The theme for this year decided for the play script was The Indian Youth; in search of a Hero . The final presentation took place in front of eminent judges which included Kolkata based theatre personalities. Sri Rudra Prasad Sengupta was the chief guest, Sri Debkumar Paul, Sri Prabir Guha, Mrs. Ratnattoma Sengupta and other theatre personalities were also present to judge and encourage the young people. The best effort and production were recognized with a token of appreciation. Refreshments and gift packs are given to all the participants
