KallariPayyattu
On the 2nd of March 2010 the cultural group of our school organized a workshop on Kallaripayyattu. The facilitators of the workshop were Mr. Shantanu Pal and Mr. Akash Mallick They have several achievements to their credit KallariPayyatu is an ancient martial art form of Kerela.
The objective of the workshop was to expose the children to a new form of martial art. The workshop commenced with a short display of KallariPayyattu by the facilitators which mesmerized the audience following which we were taught few basic moves of this art form.
A lot of excitement was there and the students also learnt how to protect them selves from adversities in public.
Mohua Banerjee – We are proud to share the honour of Mrs. Mohua Banerjee History teacher of our school for being selected as Subject Expert/ Resource Person for History by the CBSE from the Allahabad region for Class XII Examination 2010; A very coveted and a prestigious post for Teachers. She is the Head of the School's History Department.

Space Club – Star Gazing
On the 26th of Feb'10, SPACE club organized a session of gazing the Night sky for their members under the Guidance of Space experts and Resource persons. A group of 10 students and 4-5 teachers attended the programme
The children were briefed about setting up of a telescope. Then at about 7.30 pm, the children went to the terrace to set up the telescope to observe the moon. Along with the moon, they also got the chance of watching Mars.
They were also briefed about how to use a Planisphere, which is a circular disk used to find the location of stars in the night sky. They were able to see stars likes Bootes, Alphard etc and also saw Saturn with its rings through the telescope.

We are pleased to inform that Apeejay Schools, Kolkata, have won the Second position for the Better Kolkata Project 2010. Better Kolkata project is a novel initiative towards social awareness among young people, by the Indian Chamber of Commerce in collaboration with Anand Bazar Patrika. Our students were proud to receive the trophy and a prize amount of Rs. 14,000.00 from the Chief Guest.
We have been participating in this project since the year 2003 and have been winning Awards. 2003-04 we won the Second prize, 2004-05 we won the First prize for cultural and creative events, 2005-06 we won merits, 2006-07 we won the Third position and 2007-08 and 2008-09 we won Merits.
The projects are generally based on socio-cultural awareness programmes. This year we had worked with the Bidhannagar Municipality to construct a Pay and Use Toilet in the Baisakhi Slum area. The students collected funds and created a huge awareness in the community. They also assisted the construction and decorated the surrounding area by planting trees.

The Interact Club of Apeejay School is always into a movement promoting social awareness and concern towards the progress of the society. Working on similar lines of thought, the students of classes 9 and 11of Apeejay School Park Street visited the St.Joseph's old age home on 28th January, 2010. The students were accompanied by two teachers Ms. Bipasha Chakravorty and Ms Kavita Bhargav. We had organized a short program to entertain the residents of the old age home.
The program commenced with the cutting of the cake by two elderly people and thereafter a song sung by the students of class 9 followed by two traditional dances along with a few solo performances on guitar and synthesizer which were appreciated by all. The class XII boys had some games ready for the aged who enjoyed them hugely. The program ended with the students of class XI performing a mimicry of the yesteryear stars which was enjoyed by all of us.
Sumptuous food was served along with a soft drink. Thus it was a privilege to visit and interact with them, share their thoughts and feelings and bring a smile on their face. Overwhelmed with happiness, a few of them joined us to lift the spirit of the day and made the show all the more enjoyable.
Work towards project citizenship: A grand inter school competition was held at Lakshipat Singhania Academy, Kolkata named Project Citizen – in India on 28 th of January 2010. Apeejay School Park Street won the Award for Best Oral Presentation. They dealt with the topic of Air Pollution. The students were confident and explicit in their presentation Remarkably Mohit Mendiratta of Class 9 spoke with an anti Air Pollution mask on and did not wish to use the microphone as it amplify pollution. Congratulations.
A commendable achievement: Apeejay schools Kolkata is proud to share their glory of being selected for the 26th January 2010, Republic Day Celebration at the exalted Maidan venue. They have been allotted a 3 minutes period for a dance performance while the Apeejay school flag shall be held high in front of the gracious presence of our Honourable Chief Minister and the Governor of the state. This is a moment of rare honour that we are being bequeathed with by the State Government. Large numbers of schools apply for the same and only a handful of them are selected. It is our maiden opportunity.
Our NCC group is also doing praiseworthy work and three of our students were selected for the training programme for the 26 th January Parade. Finally Preetam Ghosh of Class VIII has been selected for the State NCC battalion and he shall march with our delight in the Republic Day Parade. Our school is highly honoured by this inclusion as well.

Annual Sports day, Junior School on 18th of December 2009 and the Senior School on 19th of December 2009 at Salt lake Sai Complex from 9.00 AM. The Chief Guest for the first day is Ms. Soma Biswas, athlete (Heptathlon), Arjuna Awardee and for the second day we have Ms. Dola Bannerjee, World Champion (Archery). The Guest of Honour is Mr. S. Harmilapi, Director, Sports Authority of India, Kolkata. The theme for this year sports is ‘Be good Do good', a simple message that is to be cherished not just in our regular mundane life but also in the field of sports. The focus therefore as aligned to the theme is towards the Underprivileged Children who are a part of our Education support system, hosted by the Apeejay Anand Library.
CBSE Science Exhibition 2009, Nationals – 300 schools from all over the country, which had qualified the regional round participated in the National round on 22 nd of October and 23 rd of Oct. at Bal Bharati Public School , Pitampura, New Delhi . We had exhibited a model of an Earthquake detector which would be sensitive to the low amplitude vibrations which precede an Earth quake. The project was designed by Shayak Bhattacharjee and Debojyoti Datta from class XII who. They developed on an idea conceptualized by Mr. Joydeb Sikdar, Physics Teacher Apeejay School . The 20 best models were awarded prizes amounting to Rs.3,000 for each team. We were among the winning 20. Congratulations.
1st International Festival of biotechnology, Lucknow. The festival organized by City Montessori School , Lucknow was participated by schools from 12 different nations. The following students represented our school in the festival. Alikswapno Chatterjee, Soham Bhaduri, Saikat Paul, Saptorshi Chattopadhaya, Jayik Chatterjee, Saurav Das and Imtiaz Shareef. All students were from Class XII. They managed to bag the Special Judges Honour Award for the event Turn CoatDebate.
Mathemagic 2009, a state level students competition was organized by Monginis. Sagnik Bhattacharya of Class VII from our school won the Second Prize.
CCE workshop conducted by CBSE – The CBSE office organized a 3 day long workshop for Principals and Teachers for the CBSE Schools of West Bengal from 27 th of October. Ms. Sipra Sarcar, Principal, Airforce Institute and Ms. Rupa Chakraborty, Principal, Suncity World School conducted the workshop on the new evaluation system. They were very clear in their expressions about the mission that the board has in bringing about these reforms. Instead of one board exam we shall have Continuous Comprehensive evaluation spaced throughout the year for classes IX and X.
CBSE East Zone Swimming Competition – Neelav Das from our school made us proud by winning 3 Gold and 2 Silver medals in the competition. Congrats.
A visit to the Times Of India, Kolkata, press was organized for Classes XII Commerce students as their project for the Field activity. It was a great learning experience for all the students.

Expedition to Mt. Yunum - Apeejay Schools, Adventure Sports in Education Club
We are happy to inform that six students of the school’s Adventure Sports in Education Club had undertaken an expedition to Mt. Yunum in Himachal Pradesh. They were accompanied by two teachers and a group of professional mountaineers from an organization named Bhadrakali Padatik from which they had received extensive training for the expedition.
We are proud to say that of the six students, two have made it to the summit at 6118 metres above sea-level, setting the School flag soaring high on the peak. The others were successful in scaling to a height of 5540 mts.
In the course of the expedition, the school team also undertook a research project on issues of Global Warming affecting the Himalayas , collating statistics regarding the same.

“Bhasar Rajnitite Ki Bangla Pichhiye”- A Panel Discussion with interactive session of speeches and questions, was organized by the Bangla Department of Apeejay School on 28 th October 06. Well known Bengali scholars and academicians were invited as resource persons and delegates. Mr. Dattatreya Dutta, Prof. at Rabindra Bharati University, Mr. Anindya Sanyal, a popular your Bengali short story writer and Dr. Gauri Dey, an eminent Bengali novelist for children graced the occasion.
Virasat @ Apeejay School - The SPICMACAY club of Apeejay School in its attempt to expose the students to and to generate interest in the priceless cultural richness of the country, organized a series of programmes and guest lectures.
Sudip Gupta, a veteran puppeteer and his “Dolls' Theatre” presented a puppet show entitled “ The Taming of the Wild” on 4th November 06.

Inter House Elocution Competition - On the occasion of Children's Day on 14 th November, Apeejay Schools organized their annual Inter House Elocution Competition. Participants from three categories- junior, intermediate and senior- from the four Houses – Radhakrishnan, Tagore, Nehru and Gandhi- rendered poems and speeches in three languages – English, Hindi and Bengali. Radhakrishnan House emerged the overall winner, with the Best Elocutionist Award going to Sohini Mukherjee of Gandhi House.
Two plays were hosted by the Apeejay students, both past and present, as part of their annual offering at Oxford Bookstore on 10 th November 06. Both plays dealt with topics that are relevant in the urban society. The first play, The Body of the Goddess , showcased the life of a diva, a role which was successfully portrayed by ex-student Rijita Chatterjee.
The second play, hosted by the present batch of class IX students, was titled Druggy Drags Dhruv , a play which dealt with drug abuse.

Science Exhibition
Apeejay Schools, Kolkata, hosted a Science and Art Exhibition in the Park Street and Salt Lake Schools respectively. The Theme for the Exhibition was 'Song of Life'.
The Exhibition in the Park Street School was held on 22nd and 23rd March 2006. It was inaugurated by Prof. Abhijit Mukherjee of the Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics, who was amazed at the level of scientific knowledge our little 'scientists' had acquired. Students of the junior section won praises for the deft handling of complex issues like global warming, artificial satellites etc. Senior students demonstrated with great ingenuity, their understanding of Mathematical and Scientific principles. Some senior students also put up a 'Dr. Apeejay' Corner, where visitors could get their blood group identified, blood pressure checked and height and weight analysed. The Science Exhibition in the Salt Lake School was inaugurated by Mr Amit Krishna De, Chairman, Indian Science Congress. Mr. Pratap Chakraborty, Ex Director Geological Survey of India and presently Chief of Centre for Study of Man and Environment also visited the exhibition

Visitors were much impressed by the charts and models on display elucidating the theme 'Different Forms of Energy Harnessed from the Sun'. The Art Exhibition, inaugurated by renowned artist Sri Bimal Mondal, displayed creative use of recycled material. Various art media were used to create works of art. See Pictures
Annual Sports
Junior Sports on 14th January 2006 based on the theme of Aikatan, was a pageant of colours, led by the tricolour marching squads, presenting the guard of honour to the Chief Guest for the day, Mrs. Sreerupa Bose ( Mukherjee), former Captain of the Indian Womens Cricket Team.
This was followed by a number of interesting events for the sub junior category, in which the tiny tots participated with much enthusiasm, to the delight of all the parent-spectators present at the SAI Complex that day.
Senior Sports on 17th January 2006 saw brightly coloured samiayanas and colourful posters put up by the Art club of Apeejay schools. The day started with the March Past. The four houses Nehru, Gandhi, Radhakrishnan and Tagore proudly marched past the Chief Guest, Mr. Dabaditya Chakraborty, Principal Secretary, Dept of School Education, West Bengal.
The sports meet was flagged off with races for the Intermediate followed by Senior divisions, interspersed with drills. The high point of the day was the Tug of War between teachers and students, and between teachers and parents. The day ended with the Victory March led by Tagore House, followed by Nehru, Radhakrishnan & Gandhi.
NIE Colour Splash on Jan 22
Apeejay Schools participated in the Sit & Draw Contest organized by The Times of India on 22nd January 06 at Nicco Park. The theme for the contest was 'My Dream Kolkata' and over Four thousand children from various schools of Kolkata were invited to paint their vision of their dream Kolkata. The Apeejay School Band was invited to perform and liven up the day with music whilst the children splashed about with colours.

A Guides & Bulbuls Camp was organized at Apeejay School Salt Lake on 22nd and 23rd January 2006.
Panel Discussion as part of Republic Day Celebrations
'My Vision of India in 2020' was the topic of the Panel Discussion organized on the occasion of Republic Day. The day began with the hoisting of the Tri-colour, followed by rendition of the National Anthem. After the panel discussion it was time for some dance performances by the students of class XI and by the dance teacher.

Rabindra Jayanti celebrated in the school - 9th May, Kolkata
Rabindra Jayanti was celebrated with great enthusiasm in Apeejay School, Park Street. The children of the school put up a grand performance. Rabindra Sangeet, poems by Rabindranath Tagore and Rabindra Nritya was the essence of the entire morning. The children of the senior school also enacted a Shruti Natak entitled Abharthana. The entire programme based on Shakaler Adda touched upon Rabindranath Tagore as a visionary, a Statesman, A versatile Genius and A Rishi.

The students of Apeejay School (Park Street & Salt Lake) experienced a two day trekking and mountaineering camp conducted by Chandanagar Mountaineering Association. Various activities like tent making, monkey crawling, rope tying and rock climbing were taught in the camp. |

Health Awareness Programme
The school is conducting a series of lectures, presentations, demonstrations and poster campaigns as part of its Wellness Programme. Workshops are being organized on Saturdays where the faculty and students are instructed in the art of leading a healthy life – through meditation, physical exercise, nutrition and hygiene. |
