Apeejay Anand Children's Library

one at Park Street and the other at Salt Lake, are exciting haven for lesser privileged children residing around Park Street and Salt Lake. It is also a happening place for the Apeejay School students who use it as a platform for their benevolent and philanthropic activities with the special children attending the library. The library has been hosting a Grand Art Mela for these children and more like them from the city since the year 1993. The Fiesta of colours happens on the 26th of February in the lawn of Apeejay House. The library is in memoriam of Anand Paul, born on 26th of February. He left us untimely due to a tragic accident.

The Art Mela organized by the Libraries involved around 1000 children from different premier schools and second schools catering to the special children from the city. Some of the participating schools and organizations were BHS for Girls and Boys, MBG, Loreto, SOS, Children's Welfare Society, Nabaneer and more. They were encouraged to explore their creative faculty by painting and drawing and splashing and playing with colours on T - shirts and Caps provided by us based on a particular theme. The theme for this Year is 'A Beautiful Tomorrow', 'Ek Sunhera Kal'. The Chief Guest for the event was the renowned city painter and graphic Designer, Sri Amitava Bannerjee. He had comprehensively enjoyed interacting with the young painter's at work and he had remarked that it was a revealing experience for him where he could see 'the tomorrow' through the eyes of the children. The other prominent city artists, painters and sculptors who attended and judged the children's work were Bimal Kundu, Shyamal Roy, Chandrani Roy, Ronodip Das, Shekhar Roy, Atin Basak, Atanu Bhattacharya, Pradip Mitra, Sadhan Chakraborty, Partha Dasgupta, Aditya Basak, Partha Basu and Eshna Basu and more. The best three selected T- shirts were awarded with Certificates of Honour and Gift hampers containing Art material. Last year Sahil Raut who was noticed at the Art Mela as a promising participant was inducted to the Main school as a regular student under the School Interact Club Project wherein they assist the admission of such children with a financial aid. This year the selected child is Salina Khatun.
