Karan Paul

Karan Paul

Chairman, Apeejay Surrendra Group

Karan Paul has served as the Chairman of Apeejay Surrendra Group since 2004, providing leadership and strategic direction. His responsibilities include overseeing financial planning, shaping business strategy, managing diversification into new ventures, and supervising the operations of the Group, including the shipping and tea divisions, and schools.

Mr Paul believes in a collaborative and professional approach within the family business. He upholds the core values of hard work, humane conduct, reliability, trust, integrity, and fairness, which are fundamental to his family’s legacy. He works closely with his sisters, Priya and Priti Paul, to oversee the Group’s growth and management.

Having a special interest in education, within a decade of his tenure Mr Paul established a system of grants for students pursuing higher education in India and abroad through The Paul Foundation in 2001. As Chairman, he facilitated Typhoo Tea’s partnership with the English Federation of Disability Sport, promoting accessibility to sports for disabled individuals in the UK. He has also crafted a comprehensive strategy that allocates resources to the social sector, education, environment, and stakeholder relations.

The Brown University alumnus strives to transpose and uphold core principles from a family-owned concept to a team-oriented structure backed by a highly professional HR framework. Responsibility and authority are delegated to the Group’s top management, CEOs, and HODs. He has, over the years, participated in various Executive Committees of Chambers of Commerce, including CII, FICCI, and ICC. He is also associated with trade organisations and professional forums such as YPO, YLF, INSA, and ITA. His vision is for Apeejay Surrendra Group to evolve into and remain one of India’s largest, most professionally-run, and profitable privately-owned family businesses.

Indrani Dasgupta Paul

Indrani Dasgupta Paul Trustee

Indrani Dasgupta Paul, a popular Indian model and TV presenter, comes from a Bengali family of engineers in Muscat. After pursuing a B.A. in Economics at Miranda House, Delhi University, she completed her M.A. in Economics at Jawaharlal Nehru University. At 18, she delved into the world of modelling and was crowned the ambassador for Lakmé and Allen Solly. She appeared on many runways, campaigns, and music videos and earned the Society Achiever’s Award in 2002. Other than pursuing her glamorous career, she passionately conducts women empowerment workshops. As a Trustee Member of the Apeejay School Managing Committee, she extends her impact on education and empowerment.

Sumit Dasgupta

Sumit Dasgupta Trustee

Sumit Das Gupta is the Founder-Director of ALLCAP Communications, a content and communications solution provider. He has 30 years of journalistic experience with the ABP Group. In December 2017, when he decided to start his own venture, Sumit was the Editor of Metro and t2 and Deputy Editor of The Telegraph. He has since been involved in ABP Digital as a Consultant.

At ALLCAP, he works closely with leading educational institutions like the Indian School of Business (ISB) and Ashoka University. He is on the Board of Studies for English and Mass Communication at St Xavier’s College, Kolkata, where he conducts communication workshops. He is also on the Education Committee of the Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

With a distinguished career in education spanning over four decades, Darryl Bloud exemplifies transformative leadership. His journey began in classrooms, nurturing young minds as a school teacher for 10 years. This was followed by a 30-year tenure as a school principal in Kolkata and the Middle East.

Mr Bloud’s influence continued to extend internationally during his tenure as Vice President and Brand Ambassador for GEMS Education in Dubai.

As CEO of The Apeejay Group of Schools, Mr Bloud is known for his hands-on and empathetic approach with teachers and middle leaders. Championing the ‘spirit of learning’, he envisions education as a lifelong pursuit that benefits not just the individual but the community at large.

Mr Bloud believes in driving innovation for excellence, leveraging new ideas and technologies to meet the changing needs of society. His leadership is a beacon of inspiration, advocating for an inclusive and resilient society where education is the cornerstone of growth and development. His journey is not just about imparting knowledge but about moulding futures and positively impacting people’s lives.

Paromita Guha Ray

Paromita Guha Ray Principal, Park Street

Armed with an M.Sc. and a B.Ed. in Geography, Paromita Guha Ray began her career as a Geography teacher in the very halls where she now works as the Principal. With 27 years dedicated to teaching, education to her is about a culture of care – where teachers maximise the curiosity, passion, and talent of new generations. There’s no one-size-fits-all in her worldview. Instead, each student’s unique assets, interests, identities, and aspirations become the compass guiding them through the dynamic 21st-century terrain.

As the Principal of Apeejay School, Park Street, she dedicatedly charts its success story and inspires the teachers and staff members to employ innovative methods that elevate the joy of learning.

Anindita Banerjee

Anindita Banerjee Principal, Salt Lake

A passionate and sincere individual by nature, Anindita Banerjee believes in creating a happy environment at work. She constantly strives to ensure that everyone under her purview functions in a fair and respectful manner. She believes in being liberal and flexible with her ideas to keep up with the 21st century. Education, according to her, is a tool that empowers and prepares students – for life.

Mr. Atanu Rath

Mr. Atanu Rath Principal, Bhubaneswar

As an education expert, Atanu Rath has donned several hats – from being a City Coordinator for CBSE schools and NEET, an Affiliation Inspection Committee member and Lead Collaborator Principal, to assuming the role of CBSE’s Chief Nodal Practical Supervisor (CNPS), District Level Examination Centre Recommendation Committee (DLECRC) member, and the Vice President of the Sahodaya Group of Schools.

At Apeejay School, Bhubaneswar, he helps students identify and hone their unique talents while also focusing on holistic education. His mission is simple – to make school an exhilarating experience where students can learn, unlearn, and relearn.

Mousumi Gupta

Hailing from Kolkata, Mousumi Gupta has a Master’s degree in Anthropology. To her, success and progress aren’t about reaching a mere destination, it is a journey shared by every student and staff member of her school. She believes in embracing progress over perfection, making the learning experience not just enriching but also enjoyable. She is an expert at ensuring that every student under her wing feels seen, heard, and understood. As Principal, she aims to educate and engage everyone under her expert leadership and is determined to elevate Apeejay School, Haldia, to the pinnacle of educational excellence.
